getting back to the subject :

starbuck & UKCats1 wonder about the cost of 3 new schools

RBR says $25 mil. for one
LCAS712 says $30-50 millon

swavcsas says Crosby (actually Cosby) was $55 mil.
retiredteach said $127 / sq. ft.

The costs I saw last Summer for new high schools in VA. was $180/sq. foot

Clarke Co. (near Winchester) started talking about a new high school about 5 years ago.
If they had went ahead with it, it would have opened last Fall and cost about $25 mil.
But they had problems with design & are STILL fighting about the location.
The latest bid for an 800-student school was $33 mil. (plus $8 mil. more for furnishings & infrastructure) IF groundbreaking occured this Spring, which it won't.

Roanoke's is replacing AA William Fleming (1750 students) for $57 mil., with const. to start this Summer.

I'd say it's possible to build 3 new schools for about the same price as fixing 6 old ones.
